Why bidding is a house rule and how to keep it fair
Faction auctions can be fun, but they are a table agreement, not a replacement for official setup.
Start with consent
Bidding changes the feel of faction selection. Make sure everyone wants the extra negotiation and understands that bids are a house-rule layer.
Keep bids readable
A fair auction is easier to accept when the app records who bid what, which tie breaker was used, and why each assignment happened.
- Agree on tie breakers before bids.
- Cap bids if new players are present.
- Allow manual correction when the table spots a mistake.
Do not overfit reputation
Faction strength depends on map, scoring, player skill, and group meta. Use the auction hints as conversation starters, not as a price list.
